The biggest revelation of Season 1 is the truth about Mr. Wilford . Throughout the season, the audience is told Wilford is on the train, isolated and watching. However, Layton discovers the truth: Mr. Wilford is not on the train. He is dead (or at least, not on board).
The season ends with Layton taking control of the Snowpiercer, establishing a new social democracy where resources are shared. However, the final moments provide a massive cliffhanger: the train’s sensors pick up a signal in the frozen wasteland. They stop the train to investigate, and they find —the prototype supply train that was thought lost years ago.
