However, after finally tracking down and installing the latest driver update, my experience has done a complete 180. Here is my review of the device after the crucial software patch. When I first plugged the adapter in, Windows 10 insisted on installing a generic Realtek driver. The result was frustrating. I was getting speeds that capped out at around 40 Mbps on a 200 Mbps fiber connection, and the latency in games was unplayable. The connection would drop every time I transferred large files. It was a "1-star" experience, and I was convinced the internal antenna was defective. The Update: What Changed? After digging through Ugreen’s support page (and a few tech forums), I found a driver package dated much more recently than what was on the included mini-CD. I manually installed the updated driver via Device Manager.
The Verdict: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) Hardware remains solid, but the software update finally makes it shine.
The adapter has two external antennas. With the new drivers, these actually seem to function correctly. I am one room away from the router, and I now have a full signal bar in the Windows network menu. Previously, with the old driver, it showed 3 bars. The signal management is much better now, intelligently locking onto the 5GHz band rather than constantly drifting to the slower 2.4GHz band.
Buy it, update the driver immediately, and enjoy the speeds.
