Rani Mukerji, however, is the heart of the film. As the eccentric, crusader-turned-angel Geeta, she is effervescent and charming. Her chemistry with the children is natural, and she manages to make the ridiculous premise slightly believable. Released in the summer of 2008, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic arrived with high expectations. However, what could have been a heartwarming family entertainer turns out to be a disjointed affair that borrows too heavily from Western classics without adding its own distinct flavor.

Director Kunal Kohli attempted to mix several genres—family drama, romance, fantasy, and comedy. Unfortunately, the mix never sets. The narrative feels like a patchwork quilt of better movies. It borrows heavily from Mary Poppins (the flying nanny), Sound of Music (the tycoon and the kids), and Bruce Almighty (the depiction of God, played by Rishi Kapoor).
The plot follows Ranbir Talwar (Saif Ali Khan), a wealthy, workaholic businessman who accidentally causes the death of a couple in a car accident. The court orders him to take care of the couple's four orphaned children. The children, resentful and mischievous, make Ranbir’s life a living hell. Enter Geeta (Rani Mukerji), a quirky angel sent from heaven to unite the family.
