The story follows Veer Pratap Singh (Shah Rukh Khan), an Indian Air Force pilot, and Zaara Hayaat Khan (Preity Zinta), a Pakistani woman. After Veer saves Zaara's life, they fall in love, but are separated by circumstances and political borders.
