The physics are surprisingly solid. It manages to bridge the gap between the momentum-based movement of the original Super Mario Bros. and the more fluid, acrobatic movement of the New Super Mario Bros. series. While purists might argue the physics aren't a 1:1 replica of any specific Nintendo engine, they feel responsive and fair. If Mario Maker is a polished construction set, Mario Multiverse is a box of dynamite and LEGOs. At its heart, Mario Multiverse is a 2D platformer that aims to represent the entire history of Mario. Unlike official titles where you must pick a specific game style (NES, SNES, Wii U, etc.), Multiverse blends them. You have access to a massive roster of characters—not just Mario and Luigi, but Peach, Toad, Rosalina, and even characters from other franchises that have been modded in.
If you have exhausted everything the official games have to offer and want to experience a version of Mario where Peach can wield a lightsaber while wearing a Penguin Suit in a NES-style level, this is the game for you. It is messy, it is chaotic, and it is undeniably fun.
