Facing his grandfather, the Moon King, alone, Kubo realizes that the armor is not enough. The Moon King wants to blind Kubo to make him "cold and perfect" like the moon. Kubo rejects this, choosing to remain human. Kubo’s mother warns him that he must never stay out after dark, or her evil sisters and his grandfather, the Moon King, will find him and take his remaining eye. One evening, Kubo stays out too late while trying to speak to the spirit of his father. The Moon King and the twin sisters arrive, destroying the village.
