This is arguably one of Akshaye Khanna’s most charming performances. He plays the straight man in a world of lunatics, but he matches the energy perfectly. Whether he is being scolded by his grandmother or trying to hide his genuine feelings during a fake romance, his expressions are spot-on. He balances the comedic beats with the romantic arc effortlessly.
However, these are minor gripes in a film that aims solely to entertain. Hulchul is a comfort film. It is the kind of movie you stumble upon while channel surfing and end up watching until the end, regardless of where it started. It represents the golden era of the "Akshay-Suniel-Paresh-Priyadarshan" brand of cinema—films that were loud, illogical, but incredibly funny and full of heart.
The screenplay is tight. Unlike many modern comedies that drag in the second half, Hulchul maintains its pace.
