Together, they race to a server farm in the desert, the only place where Elias can deploy "Project Blackout"—a patch that will permanently harden Veil against corporate intrusion.
In a climactic showdown at the server farm, Elias has to physically plug the drive into the main uplink while Vane’s security team closes in. He manages to initiate the upload, but not before he is cornered.
With the network decentralized and the keys public, Vane can no longer touch Veil. Killing Elias would be pointless; the genie was out of the bottle.
