While the free version handles a lot, the Extended License opens up the more advanced functions—specifically programming modules and changing certain As-Built parameters that are locked out in standard mode. If you are retrofitting parts (like adding OEM navigation, ambient lighting, or trailer towing packages), the Extended License is often required to make the modules talk to each other correctly.
