Using a user prompt requesting the download of a specific film as a case study, we analyze the alignment mechanisms that prevent the facilitation of digital piracy. We argue that refusals to fulfill such requests are not merely operational constraints but essential safeguards for intellectual property rights and legal compliance. The deployment of conversational AI has transformed information retrieval. However, this transformation brings forth the challenge of distinguishing between legitimate information queries and requests that violate legal or ethical standards. A pertinent example arises when users request direct download links or streaming options for copyrighted audiovisual content without proper authorization. This paper explores the rationale behind AI refusal mechanisms in the context of digital copyright infringement. 2.
