The film begins with Rogers and his friend, Bucky Barnes (Stan), on a mission in the 1940s. However, Barnes is presumed dead after falling from a train. The story then jumps to the present day, where Rogers is still working for S.H.I.E.L.D. The film takes place after the events of The Avengers.
