Season 3 is essential viewing. It perfectly balances the raunchy humor with genuine emotional stakes. It reminds us why we love Hank Moody—not because he is a good person, but because he is a beautifully flawed human being trying (and failing) to do the right thing.
Following the disastrous end to his relationship with Karen, Hank Moody (David Duchovny) attempts to make a fresh start by taking a job as a university professor. Naturally, Hank being Hank, he treats academia with the same lack of decorum he treated the music industry. The season revolves around his mishaps with students, faculty, and the dean’s wife (the stunningly composed Embeth Davidtz), all while his best friend Charlie Runkle navigates a divorce and a bizarre new career path.
