The men are taken as captives to be sacrificed to the gods, while Jaguar Paw manages to hide his family in a deep pit before being captured. The movie is a frantic, high-stakes race against time: he must escape his captors and return to save his family before the rains fill the pit and drown them. The Narrative & Pacing The brilliance of Apocalypto lies in its simplicity.
