This paper examines the Indonesian dubbed version of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland (1951), focusing on the strategies employed by translators to bridge the linguistic gap between English and Indonesian. By analyzing specific scenes, this study explores how wordplay, nonsense literature, and cultural references are adapted to maintain narrative flow and humor for a target audience of children and young adults. The analysis reveals that the dubbing process relies heavily on domestication strategies, dynamic equivalence, and the modulation of speech levels to suit Indonesian sociolinguistic norms. 1. Introduction Dubbing is one of the most complex forms of audiovisual translation. It requires the reconciliation of the source text (ST) with the target text (TT) while adhering to strict technical constraints, such as lip-sync (synchronization) and duration.
